Roads & Water Networks
Astraeus DBGS provides tools and automatic feature creation that is incomparable in the industry. Our intersection functionality is simply the best and provides you the most realistic roads available today.
Feature Adjustment
Astraeus DBGS provides tools to create road and water networks from raw source data. Astraeus DBGS uses the GIS topology to create road and water intersections and bridges. These intersections and bridges are used to control the 3D geometry creation process. With the integration of feature editing, operations such as vertex simplification or introduction and centerline Z analysis can be done. This integrated tool gives you the ability to create a road or water network that is very realistic.
3D Geometry Creation
Astraeus DBGS has a very robust road and intersection generation algorithm. The roads can be generated from a cross-sectional profile that contains the road surface, gutters, and sidewalks. The intelligent algorithm uses priority based rules to smoothly transition between different profile configurations. It also supports non symmetrical road profiles, so you can create realistic road features such as bus stops, passing lanes, and turn lanes.
The intersections are used to support the expansion of roads where they intersect. The types of intersections supported are continuous, trimmed, or generic.
- Continuous intersections are where two roads with the same attribution intersect. These intersections are given continuous texture across the intersection so you are visually unaware of this type of intersection.
- Trimmed intersections also have continuous texture across the intersection for the higher priority features and the other roads at the intersection are trimmed to this intersection.
- Generic intersections are where you have 5+ roads connecting to the intersection. This intersection will have a generic texture assigned to the road surface and stitched to the other roads.
Components
All of the intersections support the components. Components are extensions to the road surface, such as gutter, grass, and sidewalks. Astraeus DBGS 3D geometry creation process ensures smooth transitions across the intersections. One additional feature this road component technology gives you is the ability to create additioanl lanes, so you can create bus lanes that merge nicely in and out of the main road geometry. The additional lanes allow you to realistically create on ramps, off ramps and turn lanes without the need to hand model those intersections.
Bridge Extrusion
Bridges are extruded from the centerline data and a cross sectional profile. The elevation assignment of bridges use Department of Transportation tables to ensure the correct slope of ramp up and down the bridge. The bridge and road intersection can be angled unlike some other DBGS solutions.
